Our private Wegovy Weight Management Service offers eligible adults access to a clinically proven treatment to support sustainable weight loss. Wegovy (semaglutide) is a prescription-only medicine that is used alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity to help people achieve and maintain a healthier weight.

How does Wegovy work?

Wegovy contains semaglutide, which mimics a naturally occurring hormone called GLP-1 (glucagon-like peptide-1). This hormone helps regulate appetite and food intake by acting on areas of the brain that control hunger and fullness.

Wegovy works by:

  • Reducing your appetite, making you feel less hungry.

  • Helping you feel fuller for longer after eating.

  • Reducing food cravings and the urge to snack between meals.

  • Slowing the rate at which food leaves your stomach, helping to prolong feelings of fullness.

By helping you eat less without feeling constantly hungry, Wegovy can support gradual, sustainable weight loss when combined with healthy lifestyle changes.

Who is Wegovy suitable for?

Wegovy may be suitable for adults who:

  • Have a Body Mass Index (BMI) of 30 kg/m² or above (obesity), or

  • Have a BMI of 27 kg/m² or above (overweight) with at least one weight-related medical condition such as high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, high cholesterol, or obstructive sleep apnoea.

A consultation with one of our healthcare professionals is required to determine whether Wegovy is appropriate and safe for you.

Benefits of Wegovy

When used alongside a healthy diet and regular physical activity, Wegovy may help:

  • Achieve significant and sustained weight loss.

  • Reduce appetite and food cravings.

  • Improve blood sugar control in people with type 2 diabetes (although Wegovy is prescribed specifically for weight management).

  • Improve weight-related health conditions such as high blood pressure and raised cholesterol.

  • Increase energy levels and mobility as weight decreases.

  • Support long-term weight management when combined with healthy lifestyle habits.

Clinical studies have shown that many people can lose a meaningful percentage of their body weight over the course of treatment, although individual results vary.

How is treatment started?

Treatment begins at a low dose to help your body adjust and reduce the likelihood of side effects. The dose is gradually increased over several weeks until the recommended maintenance dose is reached, provided it is well tolerated.

Throughout your treatment, our pharmacy team will provide ongoing support, monitor your progress, and offer practical advice on nutrition, exercise, and maintaining healthy lifestyle habits.

Possible side effects

Like all medicines, Wegovy can cause side effects, although not everyone experiences them. The most common side effects are usually mild to moderate and often improve as your body adapts to treatment.

Common side effects include:

  • Nausea

  • Vomiting

  • Diarrhoea

  • Constipation

  • Stomach pain

  • Indigestion

  • Bloating

  • Headache

  • Tiredness

Less common but more serious side effects may include:

  • Gallbladder problems, including gallstones.

  • Inflammation of the pancreas (pancreatitis), which requires urgent medical attention.

  • Dehydration caused by prolonged vomiting or diarrhoea.

  • Allergic reactions.

  • Low blood sugar when used with certain diabetes medicines.

You should seek immediate medical advice if you develop severe abdominal pain that does not go away, particularly if it spreads to your back, as this may be a sign of pancreatitis.

Is Wegovy right for you?

Wegovy is not suitable for everyone. It may not be appropriate if you:

  • Are pregnant, planning a pregnancy, or breastfeeding.

  • Have certain medical conditions affecting the pancreas or gastrointestinal tract.

  • Have a personal or family history of medullary thyroid carcinoma or Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia syndrome type 2 (MEN2).

  • Are taking certain medicines that may interact with treatment.

Our prescribing clinician will review your medical history, current medications, and weight management goals before recommending treatment.

Ongoing support

Weight management is about more than medication alone. Our pharmacy provides continued clinical support throughout your treatment, including regular reviews, advice on healthy eating and physical activity, and monitoring to help you achieve the best possible results safely.
