Xifaxanta 200 mg film-coated tablets can be used to treat moderate severity traveller´s diarrhoea in adults when the diarrhoea is not accompanied by:
Fever

8 or more unformed (soft or liquid) stools in the last 24 hours.
Xifaxanta 200 mg film-coated tablets are not recommended for use in children (aged less than 18 years).
Travellers' diarrhoea is common throughout the world but some areas present greater risk than others. The risk of suffering a bout is often higher in Africa, Asia and South America; certainly higher than the risk through Europe and North America. Typical causes include E. coli and Campylobacter species of bacteria, but other tropical organisms are often involved.
Xifaxanta is known as an intestinal antibiotic, which makes it ideal for treating infections that live within the gut. Intestinal antibiotics are not absorbed into the body, which makes them a safe choice for treating moderate-severity diarrhoea, but a poor choice if the infection is invasive, which is why you must seek medical attention if you have:
Fever
Blood in the stools
8 or more unformed (soft or liquid) stools in the last 24 hours.
Xifaxanta 200mg tablets are manufactured by Norgine.
